Cash for Clunkers Generates New Traffic Americans Across the Country Head to Local Dealerships, Car Sales on the Rise

August 2009 (Medialink) – After months of declining car sales and closing dealerships, the auto industry may be getting a second wind. With the success of “Cash for Clunkers”, car sales are on the rise.

Officially known as the Car Allowance Rebate System, the program rewards people for turning in older gas guzzlers for new, more fuel efficient vehicles. Americans across the country can get a $3,500 to $4,500 voucher to replace their clunker. The exact credit depends on how much more fuel efficient the new vehicle is.

Editors at Edmunds.com have been flooded with questions from readers about who and what qualifies for the program. And despite a number of rules and regulations, experts say “Cash for Clunkers” has been the most successful of all the government stimulus plans this year.

Does Louisiana have anything like Air Check Texas or the cash for clunker program from the US Govt.?

Posted on May 31st, 2010 by admin

Both the US and Texas have programs where if you qualify and your vehicle is 10 yrs old and meets qualifications you can be issued a voucher up to $3000.00 in Texas and $4,500 from the US to be used when trading your vehicle in for newer 2002 and up model. Do you know if the state of Louisiana has their own program other than the federal program like Texas does.

I am not aware of any program like that at the state level. Anyone can participate in the federal program and receive either $3,500 or $4,500.

How can I get my truck to qualify for the "clunkers" voucher?

Posted on May 25th, 2010 by admin

The registration on my vehicle has expired because it has not had its smog certification for the last year. I paid the fees, but I put of the certification because it needs to new fuel pumps. I didn’t want to invest the money if I new I might need a new vehicle anyway.

So, technically, the vehicle has not been registered, though I’ve still been driving it.

It’s a 1996 Ford F-150, and my options at present seems like this:

1) Have the smog tested and fixed, accept whatever the cost is to complete registration of the vehicle for 2009. Then immediately take it to the dealer to have it destroyed and receive credit for my clunker.

2) Find away around the smog test?

Any ideas?
I actually total can still update my vehicle. The reason I know this is that I’ve done it in the past.

Well….there are some "back alley" smog test centers near me that pass anything. Just sayin…ask around.

Toilets may be a humorous topic in general, but the waste of millions gallons of drinking water is no laughing matter. According to the EPA, an estimated 4.8 billion gallons are flushed down the toilet every day. The American Water Works Association states that the average household uses 20-28 gallons per day to flush the toilet. In 1992, The Energy Policy Act of 1992 made progress in reducing water waste by mandating that all new toilets produced for residential conform to a 1.6 gallon-per-flush (gpf) standard, moving away from conventional 3.5 – 5 gpf models.

Locally, San Diego’s Water Conservation Program offers vouchers for replacement of 3.5 gpf or higher toilets with water-conserving models. You can save as much as $165 by using a voucher when you replace your clunker toilet with a water-conscious version. And dont forget the $100 rebate we provide through our “cash for clunkers” program.

The toilet rebate program offers client a $100 rebate on the purchase of any new water efficient low-flow toilet. The program also includes the removal and recycling of the old toilet at no charge.

will new car rebates improve or worsen in August?

Posted on May 22nd, 2010 by admin

I am considering a Focus or Versa. Neither one turn me on, but
after their respective rebates combined with my "cash for clunker" voucher, I can get one for under $10,000. I am considering taking a chance and waiting to see what August has in store for rebates?

Even the dealers do not know the answer to that. If the supply of unsold Focuses or Versas goes down considerably there may not be any rebate at all. On the other hand if the July rebate program didn’t work very well they may boost the rebate.

If you like the July program you should not wait. The program has an expiration date and the cash for clunkers program ends when the government money allocation is used up.

cash for clunkers voucher?

Posted on May 19th, 2010 by admin

Has anyone taken delivery of a new vehicle via the CARs program? How long does the approval process take after the information is faxed to Uncle Sam? Mine went out Tuesday and I’m still waiting… I heard 48 hours and I heard 10 days but can’t find any information.

It’s the government…. it’ll take a while.
